LASU LECTURER GETS ENGAGED TO BEST GRADUATING STUDENT

By Joseph Gbadamosi

If you are a mass communication student of the Lagos State University you may have heard of the young LASU Lecturer,Mr Olasunkanmi Arowolo who just recently got engaged to the best graduating student 2018/2019 academic session, Miss Titilope Adebisi.A story of diligence and love. This intriguing and captivating story has left a myriad of questions hanging like a pendulum in the mind of young hearts especially those who are out right scared of going into relationships. Usually, young hearts are faced with a wall of confusion when inevitable questions like “who will I spend the rest of my life with?,when is the right time?,What quality should I look for in my partner? pops up in their minds.Well,if you’re one of those who view relationship as an impending doom or an everlasting trap lurking patiently in the dark for unsuspecting prey then you’ll find the story of Mr Arowolo and Miss Titi captivating. The story of these two love birds provide not just insight into the qualities neccesary for a blissful relationship but motivation to every student in a dilemma when it comes to relationships. This story shows that love is beautiful. Let’s take a peep behind the scenes.

Miss Titilope Adebisi and Mr Olasunkanmi Arowolo first met in 200 level. Titi was offering a course and she was given an assignment by Mr Suleiman who then brought a young man to the class to assist them in the person of Mr Arowolo. It should be noted however that he wasn’t a lecturer then. ” My impression was that he was a proud person”,Titi said.”There was something about the way he talked and carried himself”. The charisma with which Mr Arowolo carried himself gave Titi the impression that he was a proud person and so she began distancing herself from him. This impression was to change later on in the journey of their relationship. This points to the fact that your first impression of someone may not always be the truth about that person.

In 300 level Titi became one of the editors for ‘LASU Gong Newspaper’, a responsibility she took very seriously . Once again she had to work with Mr Arowolo. “There was worry in my heart as to how I was going to work with this proud guy” she said. Her and a handful of her colleagues had to brain storm over night with Mr Arowolo. That very night not too long after they had settled down the question of “who will cook?” came up and Titi was the obvious choice as she was known for selling quality fried rice among her colleagues. This led to the first real conversation between the duo. “He asked me if I was a christian and I gave a very funny answer. I said I didn’t know!”. At this point she had just ‘given her life to Christ’ 2 days ago. ” I gave my life to Christ march 11,2017 which was my birthday and I met OA(Olasunkanmi Arowolo)in March 13,a Sunday” she said. OA(Olasunkanmi Arowolo) was her nickname for him as she found his surname difficult to pronounce.

Quality friendship blossomed between the duo as they kept getting involved in various activities together. While interviewing the two love birds one thing was clear from their responses, there was no ulterior motive from the onset, just friendship. As they further discussed and began to know each other Titi discovered that “this man” was indeed intelligent from his gestures and the way he talked.”He always has something to say about everything” she said. Mr Arowolo on the other hand realized she was a very disciplined person. “She was always in class in at least 5 minutes before the lecture” he said. They became close friends but it was strictly friendship “Then my niche was ‘ I dont date my friends”she said

Religion, they claimed was one major factor that kept them going. They believed in God and dedicated their lives to Him. Mr Arowolo speaking on his relationship with Miss Titi said ” We were not just friends, we were Christian friends. We fellowship every week after service.”They prayed together, studied together but still they were just friends. “When I first suspected I had feelings for him, I ran. Whenever I prayed God was like ‘Hold on’. Some of our anchor scriptures were Amos 3:3 and Romans 12:1.

There is a lot to learn from this awesome duo concerning the subject of relationships. One major factor that strengthened their bond was ” Quality friendship “. Here are some of the things they had to say about relationships.
” Friendship is the fuel that keeps a relationship going. The key to friendship is understanding. ” Olasunkanmi Arowolo
“Define your relationships, ask yourself ‘what kind of relationship am I building?. Sexual relationship is very bad.” Olasunkanmi Arowolo
“I believe in life every one has a bank account. You deposit and withdraw. Deposit the right content and you’ll get the right result” Olasunkanmi Arowolo
“Do not awake love when you’re not ready or else it will burn you.I’m really glad I waited till the right time” Adebisi Titilope
“I’m not saying you shouldn’t be involved in relationships but make sure you are mature enough.Work on your purpose and future. Remember the basic reason why you’re in school.” Adebisi Titilope.
“Please and Please build quality relationship first. It goes a long way in saving you from heart break and giving you a beautiful romantic story.”

The qualities and values that kept them going include Integrity, transparency, perseverance, Discipline, commitment, willingness to learn, ability to multi-task and the courage to take up challenges. Speaking of discipline Titi was an entrepreneur in school and at the same time a top student. She strived for her grades even in the course in which Mr Arowolo taught unlike other students who will be all to glad to bank on their friendship with the lecturer. She even had a 1/5 in one of his tests. She put in extra effort and still had a 5 in that course.

Today, Titi is currently serving her nation(NYSC) and is into entrepreneural activities. She is really passionate about food and indeed she has turned her passion into her income. She aspires to be a professor at the age of 30.Mr Olasunkanmi Arowolo is a lecturer at the Lagos state university. He has a compendium of skills one of which is graphics designing. His multi talents has made him popular even amongst his students. The story of Miss Adebisi Titilope and Mr Olasunkanmi Arowolo is an inspiration to all young people. If they could do it, so can you.

THE WESTERN SUN 🌤

By Gbadamosi Joseph

The Eastern Sun rose one day,
to ask a question so germain,
and to the western Sun he asked,
WHO ARE YOU?

I am the Sun that rises from the
west,she said
the beheld future that never becomes,
the hope of the indolent,
the cry of the hopeless.

Fathers have said,
Mothers have warned,
Teachers have taught,
Mentors have instructed,
to their young ones they said,
the sun rises from the east and sets
in the west.

I am the Western Sun,
the possibility of impossibilities,
the escape of the lazy,
the cause of strangled destinies.

I am the Western Sun,
the enemy of the wise,
the hope of the foolish,
the obstruction of order,
the stagnation of time.

I am the Western Sun,
the weapon of failure,
the pillar of depression,
the voice of one crying in the
wilderness,
do not follow the ancient path.

And with her chest puffed out with
pride,
Like an eagle soaring high,
the western Sun looked down at the
Eastern Sun,
and asked,
WHO ARE YOU?

I am the Eastern Sun,she said
The Sun that rises from the east and
sets in the west,
the beheld future that always
becomes,
the hope of the resilient,
the cry of the diligent.

I am the Eastern Sun,
the saying of Fathers,
the warnings of Mothers,
the teachings of teachers,
the instructions of mentors,
to their young ones they said,
the Sun rises from the East and Sets
in the West.

I am the Eastern Sun,
the possibility of possibilities,
the compass of the diligent,
the rising of men.

I am the Eastern Sun,
the enemy of the foolish,
the hope of the wise,
the establishment of order,
the movement of time.

I am the Eastern Sun,
the weapon of success,
the pillar of destiny,
the voice of one crying in the
wilderness,
Follow the ancient path.
