BY Princess Onisemoh

President, youths in Africa Sarah Munyi speaks extensively on the topic “The Political Impact of fake news in African democracy” at a three day virtual pandemic lecture hosted by NIMFEST.

Sarah considers the real pandemic to be the fake news attached to COVID-19, as she educates participants on what fake news really is. “The sources of fake news is basically you and I” She points.

Ambassador Sarah proffers solutions to curb the spread of fake news. She encourages all to verify every information received, to read beyond the headlines before posting, and to impart and promote the right values such as honesty, integrity, truthfulness. She said,
“This is the solution to so many of our socio- economic and politico ills in our continent!”

” Let us think truth, share truth and live truth!” She advises. As she considers this the sole way to salvage the continent from the fangs of the enemy of prosperity.

Indeed Covid-19 inflated the uprise of fake news and many ignorantly played a part in fueling it’s engines sharing wrong information to others.

Fake news indeed is no news as it’s damages cross beyond the border, it therefore remains insightful for all to play their part in stopping the spread of fake news.

According to Miss Akannishelle, campus journalism has impacted lives positively and has opened opportunities for those who practise this form of journalism. “It has helped some journalists build some contacts and It could also make you visible”, she added.

She challenged students who are willing to build a career in campus journalism to stop thinking and get to work, ‘Start something now’, she said.
